BetaMax Voip – SomeThing Is not Right There
The low cost international calls market had been ruled by Betamax. And I think everyone would agree on this. But then they could change calling rates overnight to make up for the low calling rate and undue the advantage.
More than 100 emails of readers complaining about Betamax had been received by me over last 2 years. The policy of Betamax to broaden the customer base is well known. Initial service is provided by Betamax for decreased rates to the lowest international calling rates for a country. As people like us get attracted by these offers of lowest international calling rates and throw away our regular cheap VOIP service. After $10-$50 has been deposited into the betamax account by you, then after about 2 weeks the rate had been increased by them to almost 50% which is as good as or even more than what you are paying for on your regular calling card or VOIP Service. We need to work out the best option available for you at the end of this discussion. We have to decide between Short term cheap calling rate or a long term stable calling rate. If I had been asked then I would prefer a long term stable calling rate any time, since on any of the betamax product I do not put money.
To compete seriously with Betamax with rock bottom prices we really need an alternate VOIP Service. In which the most important thing is that the prices need to be stable at least for 3-6 months. Traditionally calling rates have been going down rather than going up. As I do not see any real reason for calling rates going up unless telecom infrastructure costing companies any real overheads to increase the calling rates or their telecom carriers wants to make more money. T1/E1 calling rates to India are as low as 3.99 cents per minute without using Grey routes. Grey routes can go at 2.99 cents per minutes. When I spoke to one extremely large VOIP Service provider from Singapore they said me that they could provide India calling rates as low as 3 cents per minute for retail customers. I feel confident after looking at these numbers that calling from India could be as low as 1-1.5 cents per minute by 2009-2010, which is as good as USA. Those who absorb that cost with a strong advertising model can offer India as free international calling destination.
I personally believe VOIP Companies who lacking focus today need a bunch of marketers. Those marketers who understand how to market their world class VOIP service and take it to the masses. Usually people ask me reason behind success of Jajah. Then I told them that Jajah didn’t do anything special, rather they did what you didn’t. As you all know market is the bloody product and take it to the masses. In oligopolistic markets there exist only two things. You either stay in a niche to target smaller but lucrative consumers who pay you premium amount for your service or charge pennies and get massive volume of consumers. One thing is very sure that if you are not in either of this, your future is THE END.
VOIP Companies can now hire me as Consultant if they needs consultancy on marketing Strategy. I am already in the process to get my first client and I’ll hopefully get it soon. You can email me with a brief on your business, if you want me to do as Consultant for you, at searcharge(at)gmail.com.
I would like to know from all the readers that who they feel is the most stable VOIP Provider in the current market and could be a good alternative to Betamax in Long Run.
