Betamax is a prepaid Internet telephony service provider , founded in 2005, based in Cologne,Germany. It currently operates under several different retail and wholesale labels. Betamax customers are able to access the VOIP service using a proprietary client software.
Betamax is a powerhouse when it comes to VOIP Services. They setup new VOIP Services almost every 3 months. They start with extremely low VOIP Calling rates and also get you on the board easily.
Betamax has launched a VOIP Service called VOIPHit which is purely a SIP based VOIP service. Also they have a VOIPHit softphone which you can download or just use it via X-lite or setup on ourVOIP adapter or SIP Phone.
VOIPHit does not offer any free calling destination.
VopHit is one of the betamax VoIP service, which is offering the cheapest calls to the many of the countries / islands.
Few of the countries enjoying this offer are:
American Samoa, Antarctica, cuba,East Timor, Falkland Islands, Lesotho, Montserrat, Nauru, Norfolk Island, North Korea, Northern Mariana Islands,Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Sao Tome and Principe, Solomon Islands, Somalia, Tristan Da Cunha, St Lucia, St Pierre and Miquelon, St Vincent and The Grenadines, Wallis and Futuna.
Calling to these islands really cost too much. You may end up paying upto $1-$4 per minute. If any of our friends or relatives are planning to visit any of these islands, we can use VoipHit to keep in touch with them.
To make use of this service , one has to:
1. Download the softphone from VoipHit .
2. After downloading , install the softphone .
3. Then Register himself
4. After registering connect you headphone with your PC.
5. Then dial the number using the softphone and start making cheap calls.
One can make the call directly from one’s PC using their softphone or using your SIP device with the following SIP settings.
Fields to filled are as follows:
SIP port : Enter the SIP port as 5060 .
Registrar : In this column enter – sip.voiphit.com
Proxy server : Enter sip.voiphit.com
Outbound proxy server : This field need not be filled
Account name : Your VoipHit username has to be entered
Password : Your VoipHit password has to be entered
Display name/number : Enter your sipusername or sipnumber
Stunserver (option) : Enter stun.voiphit.com
If you have audio problems:
Use a STUN server (e.g. stun.budgetsip.com) with port 3478 (if supported by your device)
Use the G.711 codec

One can use SIP on other betamax services however not all betamax VOIP services offer this option. VoipHit is only one offering a exclusive SIP based service.
